Arch Initiatives began life in 1984 in response to mounting concern on the Wirral about young people who use heroin. It soon became apparent that drug use was endemic among communities throughout Wirral and pressure was brought to bear on the statutory bodies to act.
Wirral MBC responded quickly and brought together agencies to consider a coordinated and unified approach. Arch Initiatives was in the forefront of this inital response by providing an Advice and Counselling Service and a Residential Unit.
As the Agency developed, other provision was added, until at the beginning of the 1990s, Arch was the major Voluntary Sector provider of drug services on the Wirral.
Such was our reputation of quality and professionalism, we were invited to develop outside of the Wirral boundaries and now our activities extend across Merseyside and Cheshire.
Arch has a clear view of the links between the services it provides and how these services complement the work of other agencies. Our activities unite to guide a substance-using individual from a drug-dependent lifestyle through to a drug-free state back in the community.
