ARCH Open Access services have been in operation in Halton since June 2001, and in that time, the percentage of referrals has increased by 35%. The service also addresses a high percentage (currently 60%), which compares favourably with the national ratio of 3:1 men over women. The service has one worker, who offers all screening appointments for new referrals to ARCH services and carries a small caseload of clients who are not appropriate for other local provision in Halton. This is particularly relevant as it is the remit of open access services to support non-opiate users, primarily stimulant users, and those adults who do not fall within the Family Services criteria.
The open access worker also runs a weekly drop-in jointly with the local Community Drug Team at the Halton YMCA.
